Some of you may have noticed a difference in the Brenig osprey nest recently, especially if you compare the nest as it currently is to pictures taken earlier in the season.
Both LJ2 (male) and LM6 (female) have been bringing in a good amount of nesting material, moss, bark and sticks of varying sizes. All this has added to the size of their nest and is accommodating their growing family.
When we had the strong south westerly winds last week we watched them bringing in larger sticks and building up the south and west side of the nest to protect the chicks from the wind.
The nest shape has also begun to change, slowly and subtly. Have a close look at it - the cup is becoming flatter, not as deep as it was, to accommodate the chicks as they grow and need more space.
The nest will continue to alter, slowly flattening out until it eventually becomes more of a platform after fledging.
