Once a thriving hub of lead mining, this remarkable area is now home to wildflower-rich grasslands, rare orchids, and a variety of birds and insects that thrive in its open spaces. Wander through this expansive limestone landscape, shaped by centuries of human activity, and discover the stories of its industrial past and natural beauty.

Parking: B5123, Holywell CH8 8DJ

Take the B5123 road out of Halkyn village towards Rhosesmor. After approximately 600 meters from the Blue Bell Inn, you'll find a gravel layby on your right, offering parking for your walk (SJ 208 700)
Distance: 2.6 miles/4.2 km
Time including audio: Allow 2 hours
Access: This trail is for fit and experienced walkers, featuring hills and uneven terrain. Sturdy walking boots are essential. While you are free to explore the open Common, please stick to well-used paths and exercise caution near old mine workings. Beware: The Common is dotted with mine shafts in various conditions, some of which can be deep and vertical.
