Sarah Callon, Brenig Osprey Project Officer, brings us an exciting update from the shores of Llyn Brenig as the 2025 season begins!
Osprey landing on perch at Llyn Brenig

The first osprey of the 2025 season has arrived back at Llyn Brenig!

The female, 372, was captured on camera arriving at the nest on Monday 24th March at 15:54. She has an interesting history already. Born in Scotland in 2021, 372 was part of the Poole Harbour translocation project, and was translocated along with a number of other ospreys to Poole Harbour in order to support re-introduction efforts in that region. She migrated from Poole Harbour in Autumn 2021 and returned to the UK in 2023, making her way to Llyn Brenig where she was first spotted intruding the nest on 18th June of that year. In the Spring of 2024 our resident female did not return from migration, but 372 once again visited the nest in early-April and this time she stuck around, soon pairing up with resident male, LJ2. In 2024 they raised two chicks together to migration and 372, a large feisty female, showed us that she likes to do things a little differently! We can't wait to see what she has in store for us in 2025.
