The Great Big Bird Count 2025
Whether that's on your own, with your family, friends or fellow birders join in and help us to record as many different bird species as you can on any of our nature reserves in 24 hours.
About the event
Following on from the success of our 2024 event where almost 100 species were recorded, we invite you to help us see and record as many species of birds you can spot in 24 hours across any of the 36 nature reserves cared for by us at North Wales Wildlife Trust.
The Great Big Bird Count is a great opportunity for people of all ages, from beginners to experts, to get outdoors and explore the rich bird-life that can be found across North Wales. From ospreys at Gors Maen Llwyd, kingfishers at Spinnies Aberogwen or a water rail at Big Pool Wood Nature Reserve, every sighting helps us to understand how birds are doing across North Wales and beyond.
To enter the Bird Count all you need to do is:
- Register your interest on the link below.
- Make a team and choose a name (teams can be as big or small as you want from 1 person to 11 it doesn`t matter, the only rule is you can`t split up and go to different reserves, you must stick together)
- Visit as many nature reserves as you want in 24 hours and record what you see.
- No cheating.
It doesn`t matter if your an expert or a beginner, or if you want to spend an hour or the full 24 hours spotting different birds, this is a great way to get involved in helping local wildlife and visit some wonderful nature reserves.
There will be prizes for the most species counted throughout the day, most species on a single reserve, most reserves visited and most creative team name.
Its taking part that really counts, as every species recorded helps with providing valuable data for us and will also be added to Cofnod - the Local Environmental Records Centre for North Wales,
Last years results are available to see at the bottom of the page.
Please register your interested and we will send you a Great Big Bird Count Pack, closer to the time with no obligation to take part.
