About the reserve

Surrounded by tall, thick vegetation, it’s easy to forget that this reserve is on the edge of town. Oak and ash trees form the backbone of the impressive hedgerows that provide food and shelter to lots of birds, small mammals and invertebrates.  Song thrush and blackbird can be heard singing from perches high up in the trees; flocks of greenfinch and goldfinch fly overhead, calling; and dunnock and bullfinch can be seen feeding amongst the brambles and dog roses. The grassland is studded with flowers during spring and summer, with bright yellow bird’s-foot trefoil amongst the purples of common spotted-orchids and knapweed. Wetter areas are covered in the green spikes of rushes, sprinkled with white tufts of meadowsweet.

Directions
The fields of Caeau Pen-y-clip adjoin the town of Menai Bridge. Leave the A55 at Junction 8A, taking the A5 towards Menai Bridge and, at the roundabout, the first exit onto Pentraeth Road. Pass Ysgol David Hughes on the Left and take the next Right onto Penlon. Follow the road to its end, parking at the roadside and climbing over the stile into the reserve.
