1st of August Update 2020

TODAY AT THE LLYN BRENIG OSPREY NEST

1st AUGUST 2020

The day started with BLUE24 arriving at the nest, picks up the remains of a fish from the night before and flies off with it. A short time later Dwynwen (KC5) comes to the nest and just after 07:15am BLUE 24 brings her a fresh fish. About an hour later BLUE24 finishes off the same fish after Dwynwen (KC5) flew out, although on returning later she used BLUE24’s back as a landing pad.

By 9:30am Dwynwen (KC5) has her 2nd fish of the day brought in by HR7 who then flies down to the shoreline. Just ½ hr later Dwynwen (KC5) flies off leaving a good chunk of the fish on the nest. With all 3 ospreys out at 1pm, an opportunist black backed gull spots a free lunch, quickly flies onto the nest, picks up the fish and disappears with it into the sky.

During the afternoon the ospreys were seen flying around high in the skies over Gors Maen Clwyd (NWWT reserve) and lower down over the forestry near their nest.

Late afternoon Dwynwen (KC5) is the first to return to the nest calling and moving twigs around for a while before flying out. She returns just before 7pm as BLUE 24 brings her a live fish. An hour later HR7 comes to the nest with yet another fish. BLUE24 and Dwynwen (KC5) tuck into a meal with Dwynwen (KC5) eating the fish BLUE24 brought in and BLUE24 eating the fish HR7 brought in. Afterwards they fly off together with BLUE24 later returning to the nest perch.

Our Osprey lookout is open Thursday to Sunday throughout the season, follow the signs and flags the new exit is just before us so keep straight on and you can still get out the old way.
