About the event

Kick start the year with some positive action for wildlife and our beautiful local coastline.

Our 8th annual Plast Off! beach clean will be at Porth Tyn Tywyn on Anglesey (which is just along the coast from where we've held previous Plast Off events).

In Porth Tyn Tywyn car park, you will find the North Wales Wildlife Trust Plast Off! base with staff and the young volunteers who are helping to organise this years event (and they're hoping for the biggest turn out and even more litter collected than last year - which was about 500kg).

At our car park base, you will be able to:

  • Collect beach clean equipment
  • Explore interesting strandline finds
  • Learn about different plastics found on the beach (including nurdles and our nurdle machine)
  • Learn about seagrass from our Ocean Rescue Champions
  • Find out about our January Half Price Membership Offer
  • Collect your certificate for taking part!

Schedule

There will be a big group briefing (and group photo too) shortly after 10:00, and then litter picking until around 13:00 when all litter will need to be returned to our base ready for a big weigh-in (and group photo with our final litter haul of course). But for those planning on coming for a shorter time, don't worry, there'll be staff and volunteers available to welcome you after the main briefing too.

Parking

There will be free parking at Porth Tyn Tywyn for anyone attending the event between 10:00 - 14:00. Collect a permit from a member of NWWT staff on arrival (thanks to Bodorgan Estate for their permission for this).

Other things to know

Please bring your own gloves if you have them as we won't have enough to lend to everybody. There will be plenty of litter pickers and bin bags provided.

There will be toilets available and, hopefully, there will be refreshments available to buy from a local vendor (so bring a reusable cup and some money!).

The event organiser and some of other staff and volunteers will speak conversational Welsh, please feel free to use Welsh or English during this event.
