Another osprey spotted at Brenig today. 31st May 2022

The intruder osprey, Blue 551(20), was seen flying around the Brenig nest at 6.50 this morning and is a male chick from the Clywedog nest that hatched in 2020.

The ring number is just visible top right corner, which was spotted by the excellent volunteers who monitor the nest overnight.

This would be the first time he has returned to his native Wales from where he hatched in 2020 and migrated (probably to West Africa) at the end of that summer. Remaining in his wintering grounds last summer he is now back as a 2yr old checking out the osprey breeding sites and looking for unoccupied nests and an unattached female osprey.

Open daily on the shore of Llyn Brenig throughout the season (11am till 5pm, weather permitting), Our staff and volunteers are on hand to answer all your osprey-related questions – with telescopes available for you to use, free of charge, to see these amazing birds. Just follow the signs past the Sailing Club and you can’t miss it! With livestreamed footage available within the visitor centre and the first egg due to hatch anytime soon, it really is a great time to visit.

Since opening, we have welcomed over 20,000 visitors to the Osprey Lookout – a building donated to us by the Dyfi Osprey Project / Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust.
