An awful lot has happened up at Llyn Brenig since our last update.
Blue LM6 (mum) and LJ2 (Dad) have been very busy since returning from their migration from western Africa.
Firstly they readied the nest, then after a few clumsy mating attempts LMG laid 3 eggs.
The first egg was laid on the 25th of April, the second on the 28th and the third and final egg arrived on the 1st of May.
Osprey eggs take approximately 35-37 days to incubate and so we expected the first one to hatch around the 1st of June and unlike welsh trains which are never on time, the first chick did hatch on that day, just after midday.
Chick number two then hatched a days later followed by the third and final chick on the 5th of June.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t all been plain sailing and later on the same day it looked as though one of the chicks had not survived, the longer we watched it became clear that was definitely the case. Sometimes these things do happen and we could see no reason apart from natural causes as to why this had occurred. Both the other chicks seem to be doing very well and are clearly visible on the live stream.
After the events of last year we made sure the nest had enough protection and our small army of volunteers have been diligently keeping an eye on the nest and birds, to help on the ground as well Cambrian Photography of Colwyn Bay have also provided us with a further 3 scopes and binoculars to help our staff on the ground.
